A few weekends ago I had the brilliant, yet random desire to make a desk. We already built (from the ground up) a dining room table and refurbished an Ikea coffee table so I felt we were highly qualified to refurbish a couple Ikea pieces and build a desk from them.
We bought 2 Alex drawers from Ikea, a long sheet of some sort of sturdy wood and a few different lengths of 2x4s. We stained the wood and made the table top, then just plopped it on top of the set of drawers. Seriously that easy. Here’s how it turned out:
I so love my desk now and I love having a big space to work. The best part is all of the added storage. Since I’m using the desk to replace my bedside table, I’ve doubled the drawer space and tripled the surface area which is awesome because I always have a lot of important stuff next to my bed like books, computers, iPads, etc. You know how it goes. I even have enough room in the drawers for all of my craft supplies which frees up a closet in the guest room for more clothes! Win-win, guys.
I love that you did 2 alex drawers and a table top because that’s the exact desk I was planning on making for myself!

You should do it! I love it so much!
