Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks

Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks

Spring is here! Although you wouldn’t really feel it, since the weather has been so chilly this week. Despite the cooler temperatures, it’s time to start your spring cleaning. Growing up, my mom used to make us spring clean every year. Now that I’ve gotten older, spring cleaning (or cleaning in general…) has fallen a bit to the wayside. Since one of my resolutions this year was to try to keep cleaner, I’m really focusing on spring cleaning this year. Need some tips for your own home? Kitchen

Clean out drawers, cabinets and storage. Unfortunately, I’m a bit of a shopper and a bit of a hoarder. I collect coffee cups, tupperware and water bottles for whatever reason, and I have too many to even use on a regular basis. Because of this, I’m doing a deep clean of my drawers and cabinets, focusing on getting rid of extra tupperware without lids, cups that I don’t use or mugs that I don’t like. They’re just taking up space! Same with appliances. Never make smoothies because they’re the worst to clean up? Get rid of the smoothie maker!

Closet

Clean and release. Earlier I confessed my hoarding problem. This problem most definitely carries over into my closet. I like to hold onto my favorite pieces, even if they don’t fit, as long as I still like them and they have a great memory attached to them. Am I the only one? I can’t be. This year I’ve been awfully good at getting rid of things I no longer wear, so doing a deep clean (including socks and undies!) will release a lot of the clutter. Plus, I make some money back when I take my clothes to resale shops!

Bedroom

Make your bed. This is the one thing I never do daily and always feel bad about it. After cleaning my apartment all day long, there’s nothing better than a fresh made bed. It’s like the finishing touch and it makes your whole place seem that much cleaner. You can’t have a clean house without a made bed. So goal for 2017 is to make my bed more than once a week. And make sure your sheets, comforter and pillows are clean!

Clean your bedside table. My bedside table (which doubles as my desk) collects so much junk. The bad thing about having so many drawers is that they just collect the things I’m too lazy to put away before bed. Go through your drawers and throw away all of your almost-used-up notebooks, dried up makeup wipes and broken iPhone cords. If you’re anything like me, you’ll also need a couple trips to the kitchen to clear the dozens of cups of water.

Living Room

Throw out the junk. Where does your junk mail go? Mine goes straight to the coffee table. Along with the non-junk mail that I think I should hold onto like every monthly volume of InStyle or various other magazines I order and never get around to reading. Just throw it out!
