Since we’re less than 2 months away from the wedding, I decided to up my diet game a little bit. I’ve been working out pretty hard for the past year or so, but it hasn’t translated to any weight loss unfortunately. Luckily I work out for fun and to reduce anxiety, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t frustrate me.
In order to lose the extra weight I’ve been holding on to, I joined Weight Watchers. Full disclaimer: I’ve never done WW before and I had no faith in its system. Just being honest here! I know how to eat, what to eat, what to avoid, but I just have no control. I didn’t think it would work for me. Well, it turns out I was wrong. Weight Watchers has already helped me lose 9 pounds in 3 weeks… more than I’ve lost since getting engaged at the end of October! Another disclaimer: this is 100% something I did on my own. I am not collaborating with Weight Watchers in any way! (But hey WW, if you’re interested…)
Stock Up on Fruits and Veggies
Fruits and most vegetables are 0 points, so fill up on these! I’m not a very big snacker, but when I would snack, I’d always crave carbs or sweets. Now, I’ll just eat apples instead of chips and I’ll eat pineapple instead of dessert at night. Whenever I get hungry during the work day, I’ll pull out my bag of apples and snack away. It’s also helpful to pair vegetables with a dinner that may be high in points. For example, if I go to Whole Foods hot bar for dinner (we do this more than I and my wallet would like to admit), I’ll fill the sides with cabbage (SO good) and green beans and then choose the fried tofu or eggplant parmesan for the main dish. That way I can still eat the eggplant parm, plus have sides.
Increase Your Fit Points Threshold
I work out at least 6 days a week, so I always earn a ton of Fit Points. But this is what got me in trouble in the first place – I can’t control myself when I’m hungry and I reward myself for working out! The great thing about the Fit Points is that you don’t get to eat them unless you earn a certain amount. So after my first week, I upped my Fit Points threshold to a number that I could only achieve after working out at least 5 times. This means that I don’t have that bank of points until at least the weekend and the end of my week. This is a little trick that keeps me on track throughout the week. I’ve also considered not allowing myself to use Fit Points, and I’ll probably do this closer to the wedding. (It’s hard because Orange Theory makes me SO hungry!)
Portion Control is your Best Friend
Sometimes, I just have to have that chicken sandwich meal from Chick-fil-A. But I know that if I eat the whole thing, it’s 38 points, which is more than my daily point allowance. So I’ll only eat half, which leaves me some extra room for other meals throughout the day. Portion control is your best friend. I’m truly still eating at Chick-fil-A, but I’ve learned that I can either eat grilled nuggets with fruit or I can eat half of a sandwich, and sometimes I choose the sandwich and it’s okay!
Track Your Meal Before You Order
When I track my meal before I order, I make a better meal decision 98% of the time. It also helps me from overeating. You’d be very surprised to see how many of your favorite foods are actually much higher in points! Like I said in the section above, I used to get a Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwich with ranch and a side of fries and Chick-fil-A. Until I saw how many points it was… now I order an 8 piece grilled nugget meal with BBQ sauce and eat a small fry. My original order = 30 points (my whole daily allowance). My new order = 12 points. And it’s still delicious and I still get to eat fries! I also have completely changed my Starbucks order and I truly think that has been a huge help in losing weight.
