Forehead Area Before + 7 Days After
Between the Eyebrows Before + 7 Days After
I had the opportunity to try Botox for the first time at OVME in Buckhead a couple weeks ago and it was such a great experience. I’m so glad I chose to go to OVME for my first time because everyone there made me feel so welcomed and at home. Since sharing my experience on social media, I had so many questions, so I thought I’d answer them here!
I’ve been researching Botox and fillers for the past year or so since I noticed I was developing more wrinkles and hollow areas on my face. It seems like they appeared as soon as I turned 26! To be honest, most of my wrinkles don’t bother me. But certain areas, like between my eyebrows and the “tear trough” under my eyes really, really started to bother me around my wedding last year. The tear troughs would need to be treated with filler, which I wasn’t quite ready for this time, but the line between my eyebrows could easily be treated with Botox so after my consultation with Dr. McKenna, I chose to go with Botox on my forehead and between my brows. (And now that I completely trust them, that tear trough filler is still quite high on my radar.)
If you’re interested in trying out Botox, fillers, microneedling, facials (they do HydraFacials!!) or anything else in the medical aesthetics world, I cannot recommend OVME enough. If you’re nearby, the membership option is a no-brainer since you get free weekly B12 shots and same-day Botox appointments (if you’re compulsive like me). There are two membership options and they’re both affordable, so read the benefits here.
A lot of people tend to keep their Botox usage a secret, and I’m not sure why, nor am I that type of person. Why be ashamed of it? I’ve had so many people ask me about it since posting about it on Instagram and I love sharing my experience. Here are a few of the questions I had before my appointment and some of the questions I’ve received after:
Does it hurt? How long does the treatment take?
To be completely honest, I was so nervous and anxious about the needle part – I am afraid of sharp objects and blood – but I promise you it was not bad at all! The entire process for about 6-10 “pokes” took no longer than 30 seconds. You will feel the pokes, but it’s so quick that it almost just feels like a tap. The worst part is you hear a little crunch sound when the needle goes in, which is gross, but it’s also kind of satisfying.
When do you see the full results?
This was something that surprised me. I thought that you’d see the results immediately, but I was wrong! You won’t look any different the first day. I didn’t even swell at the injection site at all, so there was no evidence that I’d had anything done. I had my appointment in the late morning and started to notice results the next day when I woke up. Each morning I noticed my skin smoothing out more and more. By the 5th day, it was magic. The wrinkles were gone!
How long does it last?
It’s too soon to say for my personal experience, but I was told the effects last for 3-4 months!
How many units did you receive and where?
I got 39 units total, across my forehead and in between my eyebrows. There were about 5-6 pokes on my forehead and 3ish between my brows. I don’t remember the exact number because it went by so quickly! If I had to do it again, I would get the same amount or maybe even less! It was the perfect amount for a natural look, but I can still show expressions.
Does the doctor dictate how much you get? Will he/she give me too much?
Sure, your doctor will give you as much as you need to get the results you want. But from my experience at OVME, they want you to look natural and feel beautiful. I was nervous that I’d look fake or overdone since this is the first time I’ve ever done anything aesthetic to my face. Dr. McKenna was so honest with me in my consultation and it really built my trust in him. He told me that I truly didn’t need much since I’m still pretty young. I definitely didn’t want to look over injected and he was able to read that based on my comments in the consultation and he achieved exactly what I wanted.
Does your skin/face feel different with Botox?
Yes, it does! It feels a little bit stiff, like you have a face mask drying on your forehead. I am still able to move my forehead and eyebrows, but they don’t move quite as freely!
Can I workout after? Can I sleep after?
No and no, unless you sleep sitting up. Dr. McKenna told me not to workout until the next day (so at least 12 hours after) and not to lay down for the next few hours. Avoiding these two (of my favorite) activities will ensure that your Botox doesn’t pool in one place, which would cause swelling and uneven application!
Can I move my face after or will it make my wrinkles stick in place?
Like when your parents say ‘Don’t make that face or it’ll stay that way forever!’, I thought that raising my eyebrows or furrowing my brow after application would mess up the effects, but it’s actually recommended to get the Botox flowing through your muscles! Don’t be afraid to move! You need to work it in.
Do you like it? Would you do it again?
I love it. I would totally do it again! I tell everyone now that I completely understand how others get addicted. It’s such an easy and quick fix that has amazing results. I’m so excited to see how long it lasts!
